How we check

Every fact we publish has a source.

• Price — read from official sites and municipal information as theminimum unavoidable cost for one adult, one tent, one night. Mandatory parking fees are included; optional charges are not. Only what we could confirm against a primary source is marked verified.
• Facilities (toilets, water, sleeping in a vehicle) — marked present only where the official page says so. Where we could not find a statement, the listing says unconfirmed, not “none”.
• Coordinates, elevation, distance to the sea — measured fromGeospatial Information Authority of Japan (GSI tiles) terrain data. We do not judge by the campsite name: a site called “Seaside” is not necessarily near the sea.
• Autumn foliage peak — an estimate from Japan Meteorological Agency normals adjusted by elevation. Not an observation.

What we have decided not to write

• We never write “none” for something we have not confirmed. A blank means we have not checked it yet.
• We do not pad a list to a round number. If four campsites have a basis, we show four.
• We do not mix estimates with facts. An estimate says so.
• We do not declare a campsite closed on our own. Where a notice says it is closed, we report that the notice says so.
